When Raj begins working at his father’s South Asian grocery store, located in Houston’s historic Mahatma Gandhi District, he’s forced to confront the loss of his mother, past love, cultural and generational divide between him and his father, a bullying uncle, and insecurity about his identity as he struggles to break free from his roots.

Ashish Pabari attended the prestigious USC Film School and with SPICE KING, set out to capture the cultural and generational divide between first generation South Asian immigrants and their children, an experience near and dear to his heart, as well as to bring to life the vibrant South Asian community found in the Mahatma Gandhi District in Houston, TX.
